Structured preparation for Spanish citizenship exams
Thinking about applying for Spanish citizenship? You will generally need to pass two Instituto Cervantes exams: the CCSE and the DELE A2. We’ll help you prepare for both so you can approach exam day with greater confidence. In the CCSE exam, you’ll answer questions about Spain’s Constitution, culture, and everyday life. In the DELE A2 exam, you’ll show how well you understand and use Spanish in everyday situations. Some applicants are exempt from one or both exams. Before you enroll, we’ll help you understand which preparation you need.
We offer a course that prepares you for both exams. In class, you’ll explore the structure of the tasks, work through challenging instructions, and learn how to avoid common mistakes. Practice with official materials and feedback from your teachers will help you become familiar with the exam format and build your confidence step by step.
Course Format
What does the preparation course include?
Preparation for the CCSE exam
- Detailed breakdown of all topics: political system, history, administrative structure, Spanish culture and laws
- Practice with official test materials
- Explanation of tricky wording and common “trap” questions
- Development of fast reading and answer analysis skills
Exam format:
- 25 multiple-choice questions
- Duration: 45 minutes
- Passing score: 15 correct answers
- The exam is held every month except August and December
Preparation for the DELE A2 exam
- Full overview of the exam structure: reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Practice with official sample tasks
- Speaking preparation with native-speaking teachers
- Task strategies and overcoming language barriers
Exam format:
- Reading: 4 tasks, 25 questions - 60 minutes
- Listening: 4 tasks, 25 questions - 40 minutes
- Writing: 2 tasks - 45 minutes
- Speaking: 3 tasks - 12 minutes, plus 12 minutes of preparation
- To pass: at least 30 out of 50 points in each of the two groups: reading and writing; listening and speaking

When are the next exam dates?
The latest exam schedules and registration deadlines are available on the Instituto Cervantes website: CCSE exams and DELE exams. For the DELE exam, make sure the A2-level exam is offered on your chosen date. Important: after the final payment deadline, registration is no longer possible, even if places remain. We strongly recommend registering in advance. -
Is the DELE A2 certificate required for everyone?
Not everyone needs it. Applying for Spanish citizenship by residence generally requires proof of Spanish at level A2 or above. Exemptions and other accepted ways of proving language proficiency exist. Before you enroll in a course, we’ll help you check whether you need to take DELE.
